Baby: Week 23

You can respond to touch, and are beginning to respond to light, if your mum flashes a light on her tummy

You weigh nearly 660g and are about 35cm long. Your skin is smoothing out, with baby fat making the formerly wrinkled surface smooth, round and plump.

You can respond to touch, and are beginning to respond to light, if your mum flashes a light on her tummy.[1] Your ‘startle reflex’ is developing, so you may respond to something that startles you with a jump.[2]

Under the skin, the tiny blood vessels called capillaries are forming and filling with blood. Your tiny nostrils are starting to open, and the vocal chords are almost prepared for your first cry.[3]
