Baby: Week 26
Even now, you’re settling head downward, getting into position for birth!
You weigh over 1kg now and measure around 38cm long. Fat layers are continuing to grow. Your bones are almost completely developed, but still soft. They won’t harden until after birth, which is one reason why you must be handled with care as a newborn.[1]
Another reason your bones are still soft is to help you get through the birth canal. Even now, you’re settling head downward, getting into position for birth!
You’re getting ready to live outside the womb, to nurse, breathe, blink, cough, hiccup, etc.[2] Babies born at 28 weeks have a 90% chance of surviving premature birth without impairment.[3]
