Baby: Week 36

Your eyes have pigment now, but probably not their final colour

Unborn child in the womb at 36 weeks approximately

Your lungs are the last system to reach maturity. A normal breathing pattern won’t occur until a few hours after birth. The lungs secrete surfactant to keep the lung tissue from sticking together when you utter your first cry.[1]

You’re continuing to add fat and fine-tuning your brain and nervous system.[2]

Your eyes have pigment now, but probably not their final colour. A caucasian baby will probably be born with dark blue eyes, and her true colour may not show itself for weeks or months. A baby of African or Asian descent would have very dark gray or brown eyes, but again the exact shade isn’t determined for months.[3]
